Biological Enhancement Space Technologies (BEST) shall seek partnerships and cooperative activities with international space enterprises to develop technology that is applicable to global mission technology needs and contributes to commercial competitiveness in global markets. There are many aspects of “art and science” that can contribute, inspire and support the advancement of space and space-related activities, with multiple positive spin-off technologies and creative strategies for enhancing quality of life on Earth. Rapidly accelerating advances at the intersection of biology, technology and computation indicate opportunities for new space-related design and engineering approaches. The Space community needs to embrace unique and innovative pathways enabled by these exponential growth areas. It is the BEST intention to design transformative technology in conjunction with new models and behaviours. What may seem experimental or speculative by todays standards, will be common pathways of tomorrows innovation. We seek to visualize and define such pathways. BEST intends to contribute innovative design solutions to meet current global grand challenges and create the next generation of tools required for a sustainable future in extreme environments such as Space, Polar and Ocean territories. BEST seeks to service future technology needs and opportunities, and provide information about current research including speculative designs, trends and successes as an incubator platform for futurist thinking, exploration and technology development.
"In a fluid collaborative arrangement BEST intends to provide information about current research including speculative designs, trends and successes as an incubator platform for futurist thinking, exploration and technology development. We believe considering new designs, new materials, and new technologies applied to boot-strapping and stepping-stone achievements will transform not just where we can go but what we can do when we get there. BEST aims to contribute innovative design solutions to meet current global grand challenges and create the next generation of tools required for a sustainable future in extreme environments such as Space, Polar and Ocean territories. Multiple proposals are under development and evaluation." 2011
