I am honoured to be on a mission to bring art to space, and space to art. As the first Australian female astronaut candidate, and an artist, I prepare to live underwater, and create art amongst the stars. I am deeply grateful for your support and hope that together we can reach far beyond our present horizons, to boldly step forward in the new frontier with Australia in Space. Thanks to Australia's Representative Cathy Raper for a lovely introduction, our hosts at the Australian Office in Taipei, and distinguished guests from fields as varied as the arts to aerospace, here today and open to develop new Taiwan-Australian opportunities in commercial and cultural trade, from sea, to summit, to space. I would also like to pay my respect to the first nations people of Taiwan, and acknowledge the spirit of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, Melbourne, Australia for their custodianship of country, culture, community, and cosmology vital to the longevity and health of all humanity.
The 'Performing Astronautics' project is supported by the Australia Council: the government's arts funding and advisory body. Her visit to Taiwan was coodinated by Annie Ivanova, Curator of Global Publics exhibition with the support of Art Taipei President Ms Ching Hsin Chung.
