TEDxISU 2012
Open Source Space
Gleason Theatre for the Performing Arts, FIT 6th July 2012
TED started out in 1984 as a non-profit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. The main stream is to bring together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. TED holds annual conferences in Long Beach, Palm Springs and Edinburgh UK. TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
During TEDxISU, leaders from the Space Community address how the power of ideas in technology, entertainment, and design influences and inspires their work in Space. The audience were a mixture of leaders from the Space industry, participants of the ISU SSP12 session, host site personnel from FIT and NASA, local Space Companies, and the general public.
TEDxISU theme 'Open Source Space', explores how the power of new ideas can drive whole new paradigm shifts in our society. TEDxISU 2012 focuses on how Space is of Service to Humanity and the Environment; that is, how our work in Space makes life better down here on Earth. This was the first joint TEDx event for ISU, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, and FIT.

"Every space project needs an artist!"
[Excerpt from talk]
"It is time for new energies. It is time for new languages. It is time for new ideas. To match the radical technological advancement and entrepreneurial fervour of activities in space. As you architect new dreams and boldly explore new frontiers in search of answers and resources, find the inner resources. Be a champion of true diversity. Be open to the arts Be a part of open source space.I am here because of your vision, your courage and your dreams and I am deeply grateful to have such a muse. From inner space to outer space, from ocean space to deep space, from cyber space to real space, every space project needs an artist! That is why I will live and work underwater on Earth for your next space mission!”
